Connie brings a lifetime of experience into her role as the Director of Development at Shelter KC, where she oversees the team responsible for raising the operating costs of the rescue mission. For 37 years, she has served in multiple roles within nonprofit organizations including administration and finance, grant writing, public relations and development. She most recently served as the Director of Grants and Communication for Life Unlimited in North Kansas City where she raised funds that allowed the organization to serve men and women with developmental disabilities. Prior to that position, she worked as Executive Director of Good Samaritan of the Ozarks and led by managing its staff and daily operations, guiding the agency through a rebranding process, establishing two large food distribution facilities and thrift stores, and constructing Genesis: A Place of New Beginnings (a shelter for women and children surviving domestic violence and/or assault). As a grant writer, she’s raised significant operating costs and project funds - including 100% of the funds necessary for City Union Mission’s Vanderberg Youth Center. Raised in a family that founded Kansas City’s City Union Mission, she is passionate about working with organizations that acknowledge the intrinsic value of all human beings created by God. Outside of her role at Shelter KC, she is an active volunteer and board member of Janey’s Ride (a charity motorcycle run that raises funds for the Veteran’s Community Project and other charitable causes) and enjoys cooking exotic recipes, reading, playing piano and taking long walks. She lives in the Kansas City area with her family.
