Connie Chambers

Director of Development

Work Experience

Connie brings a lifetime of experience into her role as the Director of Development at Shelter KC, where she oversees the team responsible for raising the operating costs of the rescue mission. For over 40 years, she has served in multiple roles within nonprofit organizations including administration and finance, grant writing, public relations and development. She most recently served as the Director of Grants and Communication for Life Unlimited in North Kansas City where she raised funds that allowed the organization to serve men and women with developmental disabilities. Prior to that, she worked as Executive Director of Good Samaritan of the Ozarks, managing its staff and daily operations, guiding the agency through a rebranding process, establishing two large food distribution facilities and thrift stores, and constructing Genesis: A Place of New Beginnings (a shelter for women and children surviving domestic violence and/or assault). As a grant writer, she raised significant operating costs and project funds - including 100% of the funds necessary for City Union Mission's Vanderberg Youth Center. Raised in a family that founded Kansas City's City Union Mission, she is passionate about working with organizations that acknowledge the intrinsic value of all human beings created by God. She lives in the Kansas City area with her family.
