Eric Burger is the Executive Director-Elect of Shelter KC and will become the organization's Executive Director in February 2020 upon Rev. Joe Colaizzi’s retirement. Eric joins Shelter KC after working with rescue missions all over the United States for more than 40 years.
Previously, he served with the following rescue missions in a variety of roles: Union Gospel Mission in Seattle, Washington; Atlantic City Rescue Mission in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Union Mission (Charleston Urban Youth Ministries) in Charleston, West Virginia; Huntington City Mission in Huntington, West Virginia; Great Falls Rescue Mission in Great Falls, Montana and most recently, Hiway 80 Rescue Mission in Longview Texas.
At Hiway 80 Rescue Mission, Burger served as Executive Director and more than doubled the staff, grew the annual budget by 40% and oversaw capital projects including a family shelter and recovery dorms.
In addition to his track record of growth, Burger brings a commitment to engaging in both the local communities he serves and the national association leading Gospel rescue missions. He is a former board member of Citygate Network, formerly Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM) and continues to participate as a member.
When asked why he’s spent a career in rescue mission work, he said, “I love seeing transformation of hurting men and women as the discover a new life with Jesus.” In addition to leading rescue missions, Burger enjoys traveling, hiking and spending time with his family. He and his wife Robbyn recently relocated to Kansas City to enjoy their two grown daughters and four grandchildren.
