Christmas at Shelter KC

Christmas is a season of joy, hope, and giving. At Shelter KC, we want every guest to feel the warmth of Christ’s love during this special time of year. Through meals, celebrations, and the generosity of our community, we ensure that no one feels forgotten at Christmas.

Bringing Joy to Our Guests

Our Christmas celebrations include festive meals, worship, and the sharing of gifts. For many of our men and women in recovery, these gifts are the only ones they will receive during the holiday season. Your involvement makes these moments possible.

Ways You Can Help

Volunteer

Christmas volunteer opportunities are posted on our volunteer platform, VOMO, beginning in late November. Opportunities are available for individuals, families, and small groups. Volunteers help with:

  • Wrapping and organizing gifts

  • Serving Christmas meals

  • Decorating and preparing spaces

  • Helping with celebrations and guest fellowship

Host a Christmas Donation Drive

Can’t give your time? You can still spread holiday cheer by hosting a Christmas donation drive with your church, school, workplace, or community group. Items we collect include:

  • New, unwrapped gifts for men and women in recovery

  • Winter essentials (coats, hats, gloves, socks)

  • Hygiene items and toiletries

Donation barrels and personalized informational flyers are available upon request. Please contact our Community Engagement Coordinator, or call (816) 421-7643 and ask for a member of our Development Team for details and support in organizing your drive.

Christmas at the Crossroads

Christmas at the Crossroads (CATCR) is a cherished yearly tradition at Shelter KC, hosted at our Men’s Center and The Truman KC across the street. Each December, our Mission is filled with the joy and hope of Christmas as we welcome adults experiencing homelessness for a day of celebration. Guests enjoy a traditional holiday meal, festive activities, carnival-style booths, and care package giveaways—all in an atmosphere of dignity and community. More than just a holiday gathering, CATCR is a life-changing experience for those we serve and for the volunteers who generously give their time and hearts to make it possible.
