Thanksgiving at Shelter KC
Thanksgiving is one of our most cherished traditions at Shelter KC. While many gather with friends and family, we welcome our neighbors experiencing homelessness to a place of warmth, community, and hope. Together, we share a hearty meal, fellowship, and the love of Christ.
A Meal That Feels Like Home
Each year, we prepare a special Thanksgiving dinner for our guests. It’s more than food on a plate—it’s a reminder that no one is forgotten and everyone deserves to feel valued.
Ways You Can Help
Volunteer
About a month before Thanksgiving, we post opportunities on our volunteer platform, VOMO. These opportunities are open to individuals, families, and small groups. From preparing and serving meals to decorating, greeting, and clean-up, every volunteer helps create a celebration full of dignity and joy.
Host a Thanksgiving Food Drive
If you’re not able to volunteer your time, you can still make a huge difference by organizing a donation drive with your church, school, workplace, or community group. We’re collecting:
- Mac & Cheese
- Gravy Packets
- Canned Fruits
- Canned Veggies
- Yams/Sweet Potatoes
- Stuffing
- Dinner Rolls
- Canned Cranberry Sauce

Donation barrels and personalized informational flyers are available upon request. Please contact our Community Engagement Coordinator, or call (816) 421-7643 and ask for a member of our Development Team for details and support in organizing your drive.
Give Financially
Your donation helps us purchase additional food and supplies to ensure every guest experiences the warmth and dignity of a true Thanksgiving celebration.
