Open 365 days a year, our emergency shelter provides a safe and welcoming environment for men seeking refuge from life on the streets.
Every man who walks through our door is welcomed with dignity and respect. Our 60+ bed emergency shelter provides immediate relief for men in crisis — no program enrollment, no prerequisites, no cost. First-time guests are always prioritized.
What to expect when you arrive:
Arrive at 1520 Cherry St before 7:00 PM — check-in closes promptly. Call (816) 421-7643 with questions.
Breathalyzer test administered at entry — guests who are intoxicated cannot be admitted.
Safety screening for weapons and contraband — for the safety of all guests.
Receive your bed assignment, meal, shower access, and hygiene supplies.
Attend nightly chapel service — required for all emergency shelter guests.
Depart the facility by 6:00 AM — day services are available after departure.

Emergency shelter is where the journey begins. After an initial stay, guests are invited to participate in Shelter Launch, a personalized program that helps men move from homelessness to independent living through practical planning and individualized support.

- Strengthen spiritual well-being
Every participant works alongside a dedicated life coach who provides guidance, encouragement, and accountability throughout the journey.

For men ready to overcome life-controlling addictions, Shelter KC offers the Christian Community of Recovery (C-COR)—a long-term, Christ-centered recovery program focused on lasting transformation.
The C-COR Program Includes:

Renew Mental Health Center
Designed with trauma-informed principles, the Renew Center provides a safe, therapeutic environment for overnight guests experiencing mental health challenges. This offering includes:

As guests stabilize, they’re connected with recovery programs, housing opportunities, and continued support.
Medical Respite Center
The Respite Center provides short-term accommodations for men recovering from medical procedures or illness who need a safe place to recuperate before returning to independent living.
